Welcome to EFL!
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is an academic program designed to develop the basic English skills of students who wish to study in a community college or university in the USA. Working students can also benefit by improving language skills for their professional development.
Wake Tech’s international students represent over 100 different countries. At any given time, approximately one thousand international students are studying in various degree programs. For more information on international students, visit international.waketech.edu..
Summer and Fall 2009 Registration
The Summer 2009 schedule will be available on WebAdvisor beginning April 1, 2009. The Fall 2009 schedule will be available on April 7, 2009.
Current students can see an advisor beginning April 6. Please pick up a Web Registration Worksheet in the EFL office and fill it out before you come to see an advisor.
Most current EFL students will be eligible to register online beginning April 22. New students will be eligible to register beginning April 23. To view more information about exact registration dates by major, view the Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 Registration Fliers.
Special Classes
EFL 050 English for Academic Purposes - This class will be offered during the Fall semester. This class is helpful for students who are having difficulty with pronunciation skills. Students will practice phonetic pronunciation using the International Phonetic Alphabet.
EFL 030 English for Special Purposes - This evening class is designed for students who do not score high enough to take the evening EFL classes but would like to improve their language skills. Students will practice grammar and writing. This class meets Monday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Scholarship Available for Students Taking EFL Classes
The Brandecker-Mecca Scholarship is available to assist EFL students pursuing any degree, diploma or certificate program at Wake Technical Community College. Applications can be picked up in the EFL office, TE 109, after March 23, 2009 to apply for financial aid for Fall 2009.
